5 tornadoes in Richmond area, National Weather Service confirms
RICHMOND, Va. - The National Weather Service has confirmed five tornadoes touched down in the Richmond area on Monday.
The National Weather Service says an EF1 with estimated maximum winds of 90 to 100 miles per hour and an EF2 with 115 to 125 miles per hour winds both struck in Chesterfield County. The EF-2 tornado destroyed the Old Dominion Flooring warehouse where a person was killed and another person was hospitalized.
Tornadoes also touched down in:
- Hanover County - EF1 - 85 to 95 mph
- West Richmond City - EF1 - 90 to 95 mph
- Powhatan County - EF0 - 75 to 80 mph
The FOX 5 Weather Team said the storm was produced with remnants of Florence that were traveling north on Monday.
