WASHINGTON - Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer found something extremely disturbing in his trash can Wednesday, and promptly turned to Twitter to throw the culprit-- his wife-- under the bus.
Scherzer has accomplished a lot in his career-- like throwing two no-hitters in the same season (not to mention he's only the fifth pitcher in baseball history to pull it off). So you can imagine his surprise when he found the jersey he wore while throwing his second no-hitter of the 2016 season in the trash.
"Mad Max," as he's lovingly known to many fans, tweeted a photo of the jersey in the trash, along with an explanation as to how it got there. And, he made sure to spell out the consequences with a hashtag.
Sure, the jersey has probably seen better days. So you can't really blame Erica, Scherzer's wife, for tossing it in the trash. She had good intentions. She was sorting through mementos to donate to an auction, and came across the "dirty jersey," unaware that it was THE jersey. She claims, however, to have learned her lesson.
