SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTVU) - Former Sacramento Kings player Matt Barnes joined the cause with protestors in Sacramento who are demanding accountability for the shooting death of Stephon Clark.
Barnes, who went to Del Camp High School in Sacramento County, organized a rally for Saturday. Calls for justice and charges against two police officers who fatally shot Stephon Clark March 18 are not abating in the capital city after an autopsy showed Clark was shot in the back.
Jason Jones of the Sacramento bee reported earlier this week that Barnes is organizing the rally on Saturday, which is also the day Clark's funeral is scheduled. Current Kings players are expected to be present at the rally. The Kings have publicly supported the protests.
Friday night marked the fourth day in a series of protests in Sacramento. Hundreds have marched in the streets demanding justice. And while moments have become heated at times, the gatherings have been mostly peaceful.
Governor Jerry Brown issued his first statement on the situation Friday. He called it a tragic death that "raises a number of very serious questions and I support the California Attorney General's independent oversight of the investigation."
