WASHINGTON - Chief Zee, a longtime Washington Redskins superfan who showed up to games dressed in a faux American Indian headdress, has died.
Zema Williams has been attending Redskins games dating back to 1978 and is recognized by many as one of the team's unofficial mascots.
The exact details of his death remain unknown.
In a statement, the team said, "The Washington Redskins will always appreciate Zema Williams' unique passion and dedication to our football team and his fellow Washington Redskins' fans."
Williams had been facing financial troubles recently and was facing eviction in April. But thanks to the help of fellow fans, a GoFundMe page helped raise money to cover his rent for two months.
