WASHINGTON - The crowd at Nats Park cheered on Saturday as Washington Capitals' Alex Ovechkin carried the Stanley Cup onto the field.
Ovechkin was invited to throw the ceremonial first pitch of the Nats' game against the San Francisco Giants.
Ovie walked onto the field Saturday with the cup held high over his head, as fans cheered for the team captain and Conn Smythe winner.
The Nationals announced that the entire team, the coaching staff and Capitals owner Ted Leonsis would be honored Saturday before the game.
The Capitals returned to DC Friday night, following their Thursday win against in the Golden Knights in Las Vegas.
While the team was still en route back from Las Vegas after their big win over the Golden Knights Thursday, they tweeted a tease that will make some local baseball fans with tickets to Saturday's Washington Nationals game very happy.
"Hey @Nationals fans, is it cool if we bring the @StanleyCup to the ballpark tomorrow? Looking forward to celebrating with you all before first pitch!" the team tweeted Friday afternoon.
A Caps victory parade is being planned for Tuesday in DC along Constitution Avenue beginning at 11 a.m.
