A Fairfax County family is still searching for answers after a devastating hit-and-run crash claimed the life of their matriarch, Mary Wong.
The crash happened on Huntsman Boulevard near Bridle Wood Drive just before 8 p.m. on December 27th, 2023 — just two days after Christmas.
Fairfax County Police say the driver fled the scene, leaving Mary alone to fight for her life. She survived the initial impact, but passed away from her injuries a month later.
Her son, David Wong, says the grief is unbearable, especially during the holiday season.
"Generally, this time is when you’d spend time with family, but in this case, the home’s empty," David said. "It’s a lot more lonely, it’s dark, cold … not things I would want to be near during those times."
David says his family has been shattered by the loss, and the driver has left behind more than broken pieces of a headlight at the scene. The vehicle has been identified as a Dodge Avenger.
Investigators say they’ve exhausted all leads, but are still committed to finding the person responsible.
For David, justice is the only way to start moving forward.
"The grief is overwhelming - a burden I wish I could let go of," he said. "But I can’t until the person who did this is held accountable. It hurts so much. If they just feel that pain and anguish that I have to feel for the rest of my life, that’s what I’m hoping for."
If you have any information about the crash, no matter how small, Fairfax County police urge you to come forward.
A GoFundMe page has been created to support the Wong family.
