WOODBRIDGE, Va. (FOX 5 DC) - A Woodbridge dance teacher is facing multiple charges after police say he engaged in a sexual relationship with one of his former students.
Detectives with the Special Victims Unit say on March 27 they began to investigate an inappropriate relationship between the victim, who was 15 years old at the time of the offense, and the accused, 34-year-old Robert Lee Raney of Woodbridge, that began in late 2014.
Authorities in Prince William County say Raney was the victim's dance instructor at KLR Studios for Dance & Music in Woodbridge during the time of the alleged relationship.
According to investigators, Raney initially solicited inappropriate photos and videos from the victim via Snapchat.
The relationship eventually progressed into in-person sexual encounters, the investigation revealed.
Authorities say when the relationship was discovered by the victim's parents, they contacted police.
On April 18, Raney was arrested and charged with indecent liberties by a custodian, possession of child pornography and use of communications systems to facilitate certain offenses involving children.
