Woman, toddler seriously injured in domestic-related stabbing outside Pentagon City Mall: police
ARLNIGTON, Va. - A man is in custody after police say he stabbed a woman and toddler in a domestic-related incident outside Pentagon City Mall Saturday.
Police say 23-year-old Leonardo Reyes has been charged with two counts each of aggravated malicious wounding, contributing to the delinquency of a child and child abuse.
Officers were called to the 900 block of Army Navy Drive around 9:45 p.m. on Dec. 14 for a report of a stabbing.
Upon arrival, police found an adult female and a toddler female both suffering from lacerations. Officers immediately began rendering lifesaving measures. Both victims were seriously injured and had to be transported to area hospitals.
At this time, police say the woman remains in critical but stable condition and the toddler is in stable condition. A second child was on scene during the incident and was not injured.
Following an investigation, police believe the woman was walking on the sidewalk while holding the toddler when the male suspect approached them and stabbed them with a knife before fleeing on foot.
Police issued a lookout for the suspect and officers saw a man matching the description go into the parking garage as they arrived on scene.
A perimeter was established and the suspect, later identified as Reyes, was found underneath a parked car.
Reyes fought with officers as they attempted to take him into custody and was eventually detained after police deployed a K9 unit.
Reyes is being held without bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility.
