Woman charged in Tysons Corner shooting that left 1 juvenile dead, 1 injured

A woman is in custody after she shot and killed a juvenile and injured another in Tysons Corner late Sunday evening, according to officials.

Police said 33-year-old Veronica Youngblood shot and killed a juvenile and injured another child at about 10:15 p.m. in the 1500 block of Lincoln Circle.

Detectives said the shooting took place inside of the apartment building in Tysons Corner but Youngblood was arrested about an hour later in Loudoun County after an acquaintance called police when she knocked on their front door.

Police say a firearm was recovered when she was arrested.

Officials confirmed one child was pronounced dead at the scene and another remained hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. The identities and ages of the children have not been released. Citing a state law that doesn't allow police to identify juvenile victims without parental consent, authorities have not disclosed how or if Youngblood knew the victims.

Neighbors tell FOX 5 that Youngblood had two daughters but police would not confirm this information. Court records indicate that an ex-husband of Youngblood filed a protective order against her in 2016 to keep her away from a young child but the order was dismissed.

Youngblood has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting. She was being held without bond.

Anyone with information that could aid detectives in their investigation was urged to call police.
