SILVER SPRING, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - A woman was attacked by a dog in Silver Spring Monday, and so far police haven't been able to track it down.
Investigators believe the same dog has been a menace to others in the area and may have tried to attack a second person last week.
Montgomery Co. police say the woman was attacked Monday around 7 p.m. at an apartment community Gateshead Manor Way near Briggs Chaney Road in the Fairfield section of Silver Spring.
Sgt. Chad Matthews, who says he was the first officer to arrive on the scene, says the woman's forearm and lower legs were injured and she was hurt so badly she had to be hospitalized. Police say she's expected to be okay.
The woman couldn't identify the breed of dog, only describing the animal as a large, brown dog.
Police say on Friday, about two blocks away on Hampton Point Drive a person reported that a tan dog attempted to attack her.
Matthews said that animal services believes it's gotten other calls about the same dog.
Officers are asking anyone who believes they see the animal to call 301-279-8000. They say not to approach the dog.
