Several Metro line and station closures will impact commuters as well as tourists over the summer, with Red Line repairs impacting service at four stations for 45 days, two of which will be closed.

Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) officials say beginning on July 21, Metro will close Rhode Island Ave. and Brookland stations, and there will be no Red Line service between Fort Totten and Noma-Gallaudet stations.

The change in service is expected to go on through Labor Day, Monday September 3.

Metro workers will continue repairs at Rhode Island Ave, which is Metro's oldest outdoor station. Rhode Island Avenue Station was closed for a period in 2016 when concrete fell from the aerial structure.

Metro officials say shuttle buses will provide service between Fort Totten, Brookland, Rhode Island Ave, and NoMa-Gallaudet stations. Red Line trains will operate in two segments: between Shady Grove and NoMa-Gallaudet, and between Fort Totten and Glenmont stations.

In November, Metro says Reagan National Airport and Crystal City stations will be closed for four days, between Friday Nov. 2 and Monday Nov. 5.

The closures will allow Metro workers to upgrade several switches outside Reagan National Airport, as well as install new concrete pads beneath the rails along the aerial structure at the airport station. Free shuttle buses replace trains between Braddock Rd and Pentagon City.

There will also be significantly reduced service on Orange, Blue and Silver lines on Saturday Aug.11 to Sunday Aug. 26, and

Yellow Line service will also be affected Nov. 26 to Dec. 9, and will only run between Huntington and Reagan National Airport stations. Only the Blue Line will run from Reagan into DC.

More information about the impacts to service and changes can be found on WMATA's website.
