Witness heard rape victim's screams, subdued suspect in Prince George's County, police say

SUITLAND (FOX 5 DC) -- Prince George's County police say they arrested a sexual assault suspect after a witness heard the victim's screams and stopped her attacker in the 4000 block of Silver Hill Road in Suitland.

According to police, 39-year-old Michael Haskins was still there when they responded to the scene at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Investigators believe the victim was walking along the roadway when Haskins seized her not far from the Silver Hill Footpath.

Police charged Haskins with first-degree rape and assault.

Haskins and the victim did not know each other before the incident, according to police.

They say he is currently jailed without bond.

Investigators would like to talk to anyone who might have information on Haskins, or the incident.
