Snow showers, freezing rain in DC region on Christmas Eve morning

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. on Wednesday as portions of Washington, D.C., Maryland, and northern Virginia are preparing for a dose of winter weather on Christmas Eve morning. FOX 5's Cesar Cornejo has the forecast.

 Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect

Parts of Washington, D.C., Maryland, and northern Virginia saw freezing rain and snow showers on Christmas Eve morning as a clipper moved across the region.

A Winter Weather Advisory  was in effect until 1 p.m. as the wintry mix moved in along the I-95 corridor. the ice and snow showers transitioned to rain during the late morning hours.  

When will it snow and how much?

The hazardous weather conditions  impacted the morning commute, making roads, bridges, and overpasses slick and hazardous. While most schools are closed for the holiday, last-minute shoppers encountered unsafe road conditions.

Christmas Day forecast

As we move into the afternoon, any icy accumulations will melt away. High temperatures in the mid-40s are expected on Tuesday. A dry Christmas Wednesday with high temperatures back in the mid-40s. Dry conditions and seasonal temperatures through the rest of the week with the chance for rain this weekend.
