Why did this alligator cross the road?

Why did the alligator cross the road? To get away from a trapper, apparently.

Deputies in Flagler County say they were monitoring this 5-foot-long gator as it hanging out on a corner in Palm Coast this morning. When it darted out into a crosswalk, two of the deputies stopped traffic to allow the critter to cross into a wooded area, which only took about 30 seconds.

"He just walked in the crosswalk like it was normal,'' FCSO Corporal Kenny Goncalves offered.

A trapper had been called, but after the gator crossed the street and took off for the woods, the trapper call was cancelled -- meaning this alligator is free to keep roaming.

An FCSO Facebook post showing the photo by Mark Olson, a Citizens Observer Program member, is getting a lot of attention, and more than a few jokes.

"This is probably a pretty common sight, just a Florida Easter Bunny crossing the street," one user commented.

"At least our local gators are law a-biting citizens," another quipped.
