West Virginia man wanted for shooting Virginia police officer
BLUEFIELD, Va. (FOX 5 DC) - Virginia State police say they are now offering a $5,000 reward for information on a man suspected of shooting a Virginia police officer in Tazewell County Saturday night.
Investigators say they are looking for 25-year-old Donquale Maurice Gray, suspected of shooting a Bluefield, Virginia police officer.
Officials say at around 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Bluefield Virginia police pulled over Gray in a 2008 Toyota Yaris hatchback for an equipment violation. Gray had reportedly had been in a car driving east on Route 460, and pulled off to the shoulder near Exit 3.
Police say, Gray who was front-seat passenger in the car allegedly began shooting at and wounding the officer, who was standing outside the car on the driver's side during the traffic stop.
The Bluefield, Va. Officer and a second officer who had responded to assist with the traffic stop, returned fire.
The driver of the car got out and surrendered, but they say Gray got into the driver's seat and drove off.
Police say they later found the Toyota abandoned just over the state line in Bluefield, West Virginia and believe Gray may now be on foot.
The wounded police officer is still being treated for serious, but non-life threatening, injuries at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
The driver of the car was cited for a traffic violation and released. He and the second officer were not injured in the shooting.
Officials say Gray is now wanted by the Virginia State Police for attempted capital murder of a police officer.
He is 6-foot-1, weighs about 185 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.
