Wednesday Snow Timeline: When, where and how much snow expected to fall in DC region

WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) - Another blast of winter weather has the D.C. region bracing for a significant amount of accumulating snow.

FOX 5's Mike Thomas says we can expect the snow to start falling in the D.C. region between the early morning hours of 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. Expect it to last steadily throughout the morning with the snow coming down heavily at times.

In the D.C. metro region and the surrounding areas, three to six inches can be expected to fall. In areas farther north and west of D.C., five to ten inches can be expected. Areas to the far south and east of the District could see snow totals between one and three inches.

After 1 p.m. we can expect the snow to begin transitioning to sleet and freezing rain. After 3 p.m., he says look a transition to rain in D.C. metro area and to freezing rain in areas north and west of the District.

Temperatures overnight should remain above freezing and rain is expected to continue into the overnight hours.

Winter Storm Warnings will be in place until 10 p.m. on Wednesday, which means there is the potential for at least four inches of snow and significant icing.
