Waldorf crash on Route 5 leaves 1 dead, 1 injured
WALDORF, Md. - A violent crash on Route 5 in Waldorf left one person dead and another injured Tuesday afternoon, according to authorities.
Maryland State Police said a trooper came upon the crash scene located near Legacy Farm Road at about 12:50 p.m.
Police said their investigation revealed a 2004 Lexus IS 300 was disabled on the right northbound shoulder of the road with the driver, Brian Smith of Lexington Park, in front of the vehicle working on the engine.
A 2012 Acura MDX driven by Wendy Moore of Mechanicsville was traveling northbound when it struck the Lexus from the rear, according to investigators.
The impact of the crash threw Smith into a grassy area, police stated.
Smith was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to police. Moore was rushed to the hospital and was treated for minor injuries.
Detectives said their investigation into the cause of the crash was ongoing.
