The principal at Flowers High School is on paid administrative leave as Prince George's County Public Schools investigates a physical altercation caught on video Wednesday.

The video, widely shared among students and parents, appears to show Principal Gorman Brown in an altercation with a student.

School officials are now looking into information that there was a separate altercation involving the student prior to what is shown in the video.

Late Wednesday evening, police confirmed that they are investigating the incident.

They say the incident occurred around 1:20 p.m. Wednesday afternoon when the principal was asked to find a 17-year-old who had just left a classroom after being disruptive.

They say a Prince George's County Police Resource Officer was present during the incident.

According to police, the SRO intervened and pepper sprayed the student.

After a nurse washed the student's face and refused any additional treatment, he was charged as a juvenile.

Because of his age, police are not disclosing any information regarding the charges, or the student's identity.

He has since been released, but police are still investigating.
