RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- The Virginia Lottery says a Suffolk auto mechanic won $1 million in the most recent Powerball drawing.
One of three tickets Matthew Brewer bought for Saturday's drawing matched the first five numbers. Had he matched the Powerball number, he would have won the $949 million jackpot.
Nobody else got all the numbers right either, which means the jackpot for Wednesday's drawing is expected to reach $1.4 billion.
Brewer's ticket was one of 28 nationwide to win the $1 million prize, and the only one in Virginia. He told lottery officials Monday that he intends to invest his winnings.
