US Park Police officer killed wife, then himself, Charles County Sheriff's Office says

INDIAN HEAD, Md. - A U.S. Park Police officer killed his wife before turning the gun on himself in Charles County on Thursday, according to authorities.

The Charles County Sheriff's Office said it responded to a report of a shooting at about 8:05 p.m. in the 5000 block of Fallen Timber Way in Indian Head.

Detectives said a couple's young adult son heard an argument followed by gunshots. The son discovered his parents, 50-year-old Jenette Harrison-Bumbray and 46-year-old Jose Ramon Bumbray suffering from gunshot wounds and called 911.

Jenette Harrison-Bumbray was pronounced dead at the scene. Jose Bumbray was rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Detectives said their investigation leads them to believe Jose Bumbray shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself.

Authorities said Jose Bumbray was an officer with the U.S. Park Police and it appeared that he used his agency-issued firearm in the shooting. Jose Bumbray appears to have been one of many officers awarded a U. S. Park Police Chief's certificate for actions taken during the Navy Yard shooting on Sept. 16, 2013.
