Trump fires back at Flint pastor interruption: 'something was up'

Republican presidential candidate is firing back after a pastor interrupted him during his remarks at a Flint church Wednesday. He was speaking at Bethel United Methodist Church when the exchange happened.

Trump initially started talking about Flint, but when he sidetracked and started attacking his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton, Rev. Faith Green Timmons interrupted him and asked him to change topics.

"Excuse me, Mr. Trump, I invited you here to thank us for what we've done in Flint, not to give a political speech," the pastor said while approaching Trump's podium.

"Oh, okay, that's good. And I'm going to go back onto Flint," Trump replied, and quickly shifted his focus back to the city.

This morning Trump fired back in a phone interview on the show Fox and Friends. He told the hosts "something was up".

Trump added that he "got unbelievably good treatment" during his trip to the city. He also visited Flint's water treatment plant.

But he said that "something was up" with the Rev. Timmons.

Trump said he "noticed she was so nervous when she introduced me." He said. "She was like a nervous mess" and that "she had that in mind, there's no question about it."

Trump said, though, that "everyone plays their games, it doesn't bother me."

He added, "What really made me feel good, is the audience was saying, 'Let him speak. Let him speak.' The audience was so great."

When playing back our tape, FOX 2 Detroit could not identify the part at which the audience said, 'Let him speak. Let him speak.' You can watch the full, raw clip here on the FOX 2 Detroit YouTube page.

Trump was met with several hecklers after the interruption, and Rev. Timmons eventually opened the curtain she was standing behind and said to the crowd, "Mr. Trump is a guest of my church and you will respect him."

The crowd quieted down, but Trump wrapped up his speech less than 30 seconds later. His whole speech didn't last longer than 6 minutes. Near the end of his closing, another man heckled him and Trump made his way out of the spotlight.

"He asked to come in and make a statement, and when the statement began to go beyond what he originally said, I asked him to stick to what he said; you came here to welcome our workers and thank them for what he has done, and that's what he stuck to," Rev. Timmons told FOX 2 Detroit reporter Charlie Langton after the whole ordeal.

Also in his Fox and Friends interview, he touched on how not only is the water an issue in Flint, but so is the crime rate.

"I used the expression, 'What do you have to lose? I'm going to fix it! What do you have to lose?'" Trump said in the Fox and Friends interview.

One protestor FOX 2's Charlie Langton spoke with on Wednesday mentioned that Trump had said that.

"It's been terrible. We have to live on bottled water for everything -- to make food, to feed our pets, to drink, to bathe in. I mean, it's outrageous what we've had to go through and (Trump) says, 'What do we have to lose?'" Lesle Wilson said.
