Texas entertainer, former gubernatorial candidate Kinky Friedman dies at 79

ECHO HILL RANCH, Texas - Iconic Texas entertainer Kinky Friedman has died.

The news was announced this morning on a social media post by his friend Kent Perkins.

Friedman was known for his larger than life personality, provocative satire, and an unusual career in politics, running against Rick Perry for governor in 2006.

Friedman was 79.
