Teens charged in Adelphi stabbing death, Prince George's County police say
ADELPHI, Md. - Two teenagers have been arrested and charged in the July stabbing death of a man along a trail near Adelphi, according to officials.
Prince George's County police said 47-year-old Francisco Sagastizado was found stabbed to death in the 7800 block of West Park Drive the morning of July 27.
Detectives said Sagastizado was stabbed to death after he refused to give money to 14-year-old Elias Portillo and an unidentified 13-year-old boy. Charging documents listed Portillo as the suspect who stabbed Sagastizado multiple times.
"It's certainly troubling to us as a police department and certainly, understandably, to our community that two young people so quickly escalated to extreme violence that ultimately led to a man being killed over something so trivial as a small amount of money," Cpl. Tyler Hunter with the Prince George's County Police Department said.
Portillo and the 13-year-old have been charged with first and second-degree murder. Portillo is being charged as an adult while the other teen is being charged as a juvenile, according to officials.
Anyone with information that could aid detectives in their investigation was urged to call the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit at (301) 772-4925.
