Students return to Alexandria school after threat forces evacuation

Students returned to an Alexandria school after it was evacuated Thursday morning due to a threat.

Police they investigated and cleared Francis C. Hammond Middle School in the 4600 block of Seminary Road.

The school was evacuated at about 10:30 a.m. after police say a threat was made online.

The evacuation was the result of a tweet that said there would be a bombing at the school. The tweet went on to say if the bomb were to fail, there would be a shooting instead.

Officials said 1,400 students were bused to T.C. Williams High School as a precaution. Authorities said there were no injuries and the incident remained under investigation.
