Student arrested for threat made against Broadneck High School in Annapolis, police say
ANNAPOLIS - A student has been arrested for making a threat to carry out a school shooting in Anne Arundel County, according to officials.
Anne Arundel County police said a 9th grade student was identified as making a "prank" call to Broadneck High School in Annapolis late Monday evening. Authorities confirmed the student was arrested in connection with the threat on Tuesday.
In a tweet sent from their official Twitter account early Tuesday morning, Anne Arundel County Public Schools said police were investigating the telephone threat since Monday night.
School opened at its regularly scheduled time and additional officers were on campus Tuesday morning, "as a precaution and to help alleviate anxiety and fear."
The Anne Arundel County Police Department also posted about the threat on their Facebook page early Tuesday, asking parents to talk to their children about the seriousness of these kinds of threats.
"They are not funny and are disrespectful to the victims of mass violence, disrespectful to our community, and disrespectful to our schools. We are better than this! These incidents are not taken lightly and any individuals found to be involved will be arrested and prosecuted."
