Bitter cold air is keeping its grip on the D.C. region Thursday as we keep an eye on a possible winter weather system that could leave us with a messy mix Friday afternoon.

FOX 5's Caitlin Roth says the mixed snow and rain showers will work their way into the area mostly during the afternoon hours on Friday. Roth says the mix should hit after the morning commute when temperatures will be warm enough to prevent much of anything from sticking to the ground. Some accumulations may be seen north and west of the D.C. metro area.

Thursday should remain dry and not quite as windy as earlier this week.

Much warmer weather is in store this weekend with temperatures into the 50s on Saturday and into the mid-60s by Sunday. Sunday morning starts off wet with showers moving out by the afternoon.

Next week looks dry so far with more seasonable temperatures expected.

Don't forget -- Daylight Saving Time beings on Sunday, March 10 at 2 a.m. when clocks are turned forward one hour to 3 a.m.
