Snow cancels flights at Dulles, Reagan, and BWI airports
WASHINGTON - The snowstorm that’s slamming the Washington, D.C. area is also delaying flights and making driving conditions on the roadways extremely dangerous.
Hundreds of flights were canceled Monday morning.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority advised travelers to check with Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) directly to see if they are arriving or departing on time. Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) said to do the same.
The significant impacts from the heavy snow and ice extended across the mid-Atlantic.
The snow and ice created hazardous driving conditions on area roadways on Monday. Numerous crashes were reported across area roadways. In Gaithersburg, a flatbed truck struck an underpass, creating delays in the early morning hours.
The heavy snow accumulations and hazardous driving conditions prompted schools across the region to close on Monday. It is likely that school districts will close or delay opening times on Tuesday as snow is expected to fall into the late afternoon and early evening hours and could create slippery conditions.
