Slow commutes, crashes, school closings linger days after winter snow storm
MILLERSVILLE, Md - The Washington, D.C. region is still grappling with the effects of Monday's winter storm, which dumped nearly a foot of snow in some areas. The storm brought snow and ice, forcing schools to close and creating hazardous driving conditions.
Many major school districts remained closed or delayed on Wednesday. Crashes snarled traffic, causing backups for morning commuters. A tractor-trailer crash early Wednesday slowed traffic on Interstate-97 past Crownsville Road in Anne Arundel County.
In Prince George's County, schools were closed again on Wednesday. Officials opened five emergency meal distribution sites to provide breakfast and lunch to students.
In addition to the snow and closings, D.C. residents face road closures, parking restrictions, and Metro delays due to the state funeral for former President Jimmy Carter.
