Silver Spring man charged in 2017 double-homicide at Westfield Wheaton mall

A 19-year-old man is facing murder charges after police in Montgomery County say he fatally stabbed two men at Westfield Wheaton mall in January 2017.

Montgomery County Police say on Jan. 10, 2017, officers arrived at Westfield Wheaton Mall located in the 11000 block of Veirs Mill Road at around 3:15 p.m. after receiving a call for an assault and possible stabbings inside the mall.

While there, they found Kevin Siloe Moya Cruz and Angel Alfredo Gomez-Pineda suffering from apparent stab wounds. They were both transported to local hospitals where they succumbed to their injuries.

After a lengthy investigation, police arrested and charged King Yassin Leigh-Conteh, of Silver Spring, with two counts of first-degree murder in relation to the stabbings.

Leigh-Conteh was transported to the Central Processing Unit after his arrest on Monday. Bond information is not available at this time.

Days following the incident, police initially charged then 17-year-old Angelo Lamont Jackson, of Montgomery Village, with the murders. Those charges were dismissed in March 2017, according to Bethesda Beat.
