Crumbs and Whiskers, the District's first cat café, opens this weekend in Georgetown.
The concept is pretty simple. Cat lovers can come spend time with homeless cats that are in need of permanent homes.
The business was made possible through a Kickstarter campaign.
"What we want is people to come in with their friends and really just interact with cats, get to know these cats, have a great time. But we also have coffee and we have fun books, so if you want that experience you can have that too," said owner Kanchan Singh.
All food and drinks will be available for purchase from a nearby café, and will be delivered to Crumbs and Whiskers.
Singh, 24, came across this concept in Thailand and decided to bring her own version to D.C.
"The Asian model is not so much focused on adoption, it's just for people to relieve stress and get their time with animals that they can't get because they can't have animals in their houses. Here, it's more so to do that, but also get cats adopted."
The Washington Humane Society provides the cats and is in charge of the adoptions.
Reservations are recommended at Crumbs and Whiskers. The hourly rate is $10 on weekdays and $12 on weekends.
