Search continues for suspects who attacked woman at SW Waterfront Metro station

WASHINGTON - Metro Transit Police are still trying to track down the suspects responsible for knocking over a woman who had just gotten off a train at the Southwest Waterfront station earlier last month.

Surveillance video from the April 29 attack shows the woman was knocked to the ground and kicked in the face during the vicious attack, which took place just after midnight. A handful of teens are seen on the video, and seconds later near the escalator, a couple is seen walking out of the station as they're approached from behind by a person who also appears to be a teenager.

The woman is sucker punched in the head from behind, knocking her to the ground. The group is seen running away and seemingly laughing after the assault. The woman did not appear to be injured, a Metro spokesperson said at the time.

Unfortunately, it's not the first time an attack like this has happened in a Metro station, and that has led to more questions about the safety of the transit system. FOX 5 asked DC Mayor Muriel Bowser about safety on Metro and this attack specifically. She said she wasn't aware of this recent assault, and she couldn't answer a question about something she hadn't seen. Bowser's office said she would likely be able to respond on Friday.

FOX 5 also asked riders in Southwest DC how they felt after watching the video. One young man who watched it did not want his face shown because he said he too has been jumped on Metro.

Metro tells FOX 5 that through May 24, aggravated assaults, which are also known as Part I assaults, are down 29 percent compared to the same period last year.
