Retired Charles County police officer rescues injured owl in Dentsville

A retired Charles County police officer traveling through Dentsville on Wednesday stopped to rescue a tiny owl who she found in the middle of the road.

The sheriff's office says Sgt. Patti Baxter was driving on Route 6 when she observed the adorable creature who appeared to be injured and unable to move.

Baxter jumped out of her car and gently wrapped the owl in a sweater she had in her car.

When Ofc. Terrell Hemsley arrived at the scene, the sheriff's office says he took over caring for the owl before it was transported to Owl Moon Raptor Center.

The owl, who has been nicknamed "Lil Screech," had a head and leg injury, according to the sheriff's office.

After receiving treatment and loving care, "Lil Screech" is now on the road to recovery!
