Protesters demand justice for Natasha McKenna following deaths in Louisiana, Minnesota
FAIRFAX, Va. - Protestors gathered in Fairfax County Monday to demand justice for Natasha McKenna - a mentally ill inmate who died in police custody over a year ago.
McKenna, who had faced charges of assaulting a police officer, was involved in a February 2015 jailhouse struggle with several deputies while she was being transferred from a facility in Fairfax to a facility in Alexandria.
Video of the incident shows officers wearing biohazard suits restraining McKenna and shocking her with a stun gun. (VIDEO OF INCIDENT)
No charges were filed against the officers involved in McKenna's transfer, however, the case remains the subject of a federal civil rights investigation.
Renewed interest in McKenna's death has come about after recent officer-involved shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota - followed by a shooting in which a gunman killed five police officers at a Dallas protest march.
