BETHESDA, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say a problem that led to smoke in a subway tunnel in Bethesda has been resolved and Metro trains are running normally.
Metro reported shortly before 11 a.m. Tuesday that a malfunctioning electrical insulator had been removed and that trains had resumed normal service.
The problem was reported in a tunnel between the Bethesda and Medical Center stations. Montgomery County fire officials say the smoke has been cleared.
In January, one woman died and dozens of people were sickened by smoke after a train became stranded in a smoky tunnel in downtown Washington. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the electrical malfunction that led to the smoke.
