Prince George's County Police step up presence at schools following social media threat

The Prince George's County Police Department stationed additional officers at schools Monday after a threat circulated on social media over the weekend.

Bladensburg High School, Charles H. Flowers High School, William Wirt Middle School and Kenmoore Middle School were the schools mentioned in the threatening posts.

The threat appeared to hint at a shooting attack on teachers and students at several Prince George's County Schools and was shared on a number of social media platforms.

"We have been made aware of the threats to schools throughout the area. As an abundance of caution, as an increase to our school resource officers, we have increased patrols around schools during arrivals and dismissals," said Ashley Savage, PIO for the Arlington County Police Department.

Prince George's County Schools tweeted Sunday that they were aware of the threat and that law enforcement was investigating. Police later confirmed that additional police would be present at schools out of an abundance of caution.
