Prince George’s County police release names of their officers involved in suspect’s shooting
PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. - Prince George’s County police have identified their officers who were involved in the fatal shooting of an allegedly armed man near a local mall on Thursday.
About 10 officers were involved in the incident.
Police officials said the officers who responded to a complaint about a man with two knives near the Mall at Prince Georges deployed Tasers, pepper spray, and a beanbag gun before finally resorting to lethal force when he advanced on an officer.
According to police, the suspect, who has been identified as Leonard Shand, 49, of Bowie, said he wanted to die during the incident, which lasted approximately 28 minutes.
The county police who were involved in the shooting have been identified as:
- Sergeant David Cheatham
- Officer Dario Daniel
- Officer Kesha Nsiah-Ababio
Officers from the Mount Rainier and Hyattsville departments have not been identified.
