WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Monday morning to react to protests by hundreds of NFL players during the national anthem before games across the country on Sunday.
Trump supported the message sent by NASCAR owners who said they wouldn't stand for protests by their drivers or other members of their staffs.
"So proud of NASCAR and its supporters and fans. They won't put up with disrespecting our Country or our Flag - they said it loud and clear!" Trump's first of four tweets read.
"Many people booed the players who kneeled yesterday (which was a small percentage of total). These are fans who demand respect for our Flag!" he continued.
"The issue of kneeling has nothing to do with race. It is about respect for our Country, Flag and National Anthem. NFL must respect this!" the President tweeted.
"The White House never looked more beautiful than it did returning last night. Important meetings taking place today. Big tax cuts & reform," his last tweet read.
More than 200 players around the NFL were seen kneeling or sitting during the national anthem on Sunday, while others linked arms and stood in unity.
The highest total of players to kneel or sit was in Washington before the nationally televised night game, where nearly the entire Oakland Raiders team protested, in addition to six Redskins. Other Redskins players, coaches and staff locked arms during the national anthem, including team owner Dan Snyder.

The amount of protests around the NFL ballooned this weekend in the wake of President Trump's criticism of players who protest during the national anthem. Only four players were observed kneeling or sitting last weekend, and two others raised their fists.
