Power outage disables traffic signals at several Wheaton intersections

(AP) -- A power outage in Montgomery County is affecting travel in the Wheaton area.

Pepco's online outage map shows about 3,000 customers are without power in the Wheaton area on Wednesday morning.

County police warned on Twitter that the outage cut power to traffic lights at several intersections, but officers are directing traffic. Power was out briefly at the Metro station in Wheaton, but Metro tweeted that power has been restored and lights and gates are working again.

Authorities say traffic signals were not functioning at the following intersections:

University Blvd at Inwood Ave.
University at Amherst Ave.
Veirs Mill Rd at Reedie Dr.
Georgia Ave. at Randolph Rd.
Georgia Ave. at Shorefield Rd.
