Pope Francis appoints new bishop for the Diocese of Arlington, Va.

ARLINGTON, Va. - Pope Francis has appointed a new bishop for the Diocese of Arlington - Bishop Michael Burbidge.

Burbidge has been transferred to the Diocese of Arlington, Virginia after serving in Raleigh for 10 years, the church announced Tuesday.

Burbidge was bishop of the diocese of Raleigh. Burbidge replaces Bishop Paul Loverde who has led the Arlington diocese since 1999. Loverde is 76 which is retirement age for catholic priests and bishops.

Burbidge will be installed as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Arlington December 6.
