Police: Suspect climbs through apartment bedroom window, sexually assaults woman
GREENBELT, Md. - Police in Greenbelt are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a woman in her apartment.
The attack happened at around 1:30 a.m. Saturday at the Franklin Park at Greenbelt Station apartment complex off of Edmonston Road.
Greenbelt police say a woman was alone in her apartment when the suspect crawled through a partially open bedroom window of an apartment on the first floor. The suspect told the victim he had a gun and then sexually assaulted her. He then fled from the apartment.
Police say they did a thorough search of the area using K-9s, but were not able to track down the suspect.
"Any kind of violence, especially in a sexual nature, is always concerning," said Greenbelt police spokesperson George Mathews. "This is very rare for us. It's been several years since we have had which we call a random sexual assault - when the suspect may not be known to the victim. So it is very concerning whenever this happens."
Police describe the suspect as a black male around 19 years old. He is about 5'7", 150 pounds with a heavy build. He was wearing a black and white long-sleeved jacket, grey shorts and white socks.
If you have any information, you are asked to call Greenbelt police.
