DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - Detectives with the Prince George's County Police are looking for a suspect they say attempted to sexually assault a woman in District Heights Wednesday night.
Police say at 10:22 p.m. on August 14, a woman waved down an officer to report an assault near the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Walters Lane.
The woman told police she was walking down Walters Ln. when a person unknown to her grabbed her, dragged her into a wooded area and attempted to sexually assault her.
During the attempted assault, the woman fought back and the suspect struck her several times causing minor injuries.
The woman was able to get away from the suspect and ran out of the woods to flag down an officer. During this time, police say the suspect fled the area.
The officers called for backup and began to canvass the area for the suspect, but were unable to locate him.
Meanwhile, the woman was transported to a local hospital where she was later released.
Police describe the suspect as a black man between the ages of 27 and 35 years old who is around 5'7" and weighs between 180 and 200 pounds. He reportedly had shoulder-length dreadlocks and was wearing a white shirt, black cargo pants, black shoes and glasses.
On Friday evening, detectives spent a large part of their evening handing out wanted fliers.
Neighbors FOX 5's Ayesha Khan spoke to say it’s unnerving to know that someone could do such a thing and is still out there.
"It does concern me, considering that I have two daughters who are in their early 20’s and granddaughters so yes that does concern me," said Jamie Hackett.
