D.C. police are searching for the body of a man spotted in the water by a construction crew near Reagan National Airport Monday afternoon.

Police were seen searching a channel of water that comes from Roaches Run in the Potomac River.

Authorities believe the missing man was an elderly fisherman, possibly in his 80s, who may have had an accident on the water as his boat was found with the engine still running and lapping up against a bridge over the George Washington Memorial Parkway.

Police said the construction crew spotted a man's body face down in the water and called police.

Arlington police received the call and then U.S. Park Police and D.C. police's Harbor Patrol became involved. After securing the running boat, police have been looking for the man's body since then.

Due to inclement weather Monday afternoon, the search was suspended and will resume Tuesday morning.
