Police search for clues in shooting death of grandmother in Chillum
CHILLUM, Md. - Prince George's County police returned to the murder scene of a 51-year-old woman killed earlier this week in Chillum.
There are still no suspects identified after Brenda Swann, a mother and grandmother, was found shot in the upper body on a sidewalk near a park with a playground in the area of Ray Road and 16th Avenue during the early morning hours on Tuesday.
Two days later, investigators returned to the crime scene to canvass a nearby apartment community and hand out fliers with Swann's photo.
Police say it is still under investigation whether the shooting was targeted or random.
Investigators say Swann lived several miles from the scene in Brentwood and it is unknown why she was in the area.
Detectives are looking for any detail that may help them catch the shooter.
"We are here tonight canvassing the neighborhood because we are trying to look for any tidbit of information that might help us," said Prince George's County Police Cpl. Lamar Robinson. "People know something and somebody heard the gunshot that night or saw a vehicle that is not normally in this neighborhood. That little bit of information can definitely help us bring a case like this to a close."
In a video on her Facebook page about two years ago, Swann spoke about what a blessing it was to celebrate her 50th birthday and "see my kids grown and to share life with my grandchildren."
A friend said everyone is shocked and devastated by Swann's sudden death.
