Police investigating possible abduction on I-495 in Virginia

Virginia State Police say they are investigating a reported abduction on Interstate 495 near Alexandria.

According to officials, police were informed about the incident at around 12:15 p.m. Monday. Two women reported that they voluntarily got into a vehicle driven by a man they knew. However, after the women asked to get out of the vehicle, the suspect continued to drive on.

Police say a trooper on patrol on westbound I-495 and Van Dorn Street located the vehicle as it took the ramp to northbound I-395 and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver refused to pull over and a pursuit of the vehicle began.

The car exited onto King Street and entered a residential area. The driver got out of the vehicle and ran away on foot, leaving behind the two female passengers, according to Virginia State Police.

Officials say no one was injured and they do not believe there is any threat to the public at this time.
