WASHINGTON - Police have released the identity of an elderly woman who died after a fire in Northwest D.C. Tuesday night.
Firefighters were initially able to rescue 96-year-old Annie Maiden from the flames, but she did not survive her injuries.
D.C. fire crews responded to the scene in the 1800 block North Capital Street around 7:15 p.m.
FOX 5 has learned that the closest ladder truck to the scene had recently been moved to a station across the Anacostia River due to ongoing equipment problems.
Investigators have not said what sparked the fire, but noted that there were no working fire alarms in the home.
