DAMASCUS, Md. - (AP) -- Authorities say a Maryland State Highway Administration worker was hit by a vehicle and seriously injured while salting a road in Damascus.
Montgomery County Police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks told The Washington Post that the man was on the shoulder of Ridge Road around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when a vehicle hit him. He says the worker was spreading salt on the roadway with a crew just before the collision. He was taken to a trauma unit in serious condition.
Starks says it's not clear what caused the crash, but the driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and alcohol was not a factor.
SHA spokesman Charlie Gischlar said by phone Wednesday morning that the man was still hospitalized, but he did not have any updates on the man's condition.
