Police asking for help to identify man found dead in Centreville

CENTREVILLE, Va. - Police are looking for help to identify a person whose body was found Wednesday morning on a residential street in Centreville.

"My wife had heard some loud voices outside around midnight, maybe between midnight and 1 a.m. and she also heard one other loud noise hitting the side of a house or something like that," said Centreville resident William Parker.

Police say the victim was wearing a sweatshirt featuring a black skull and snake design.

Police say he is about five-foot-six-inches to five-foot-eight-inches tall.

The victim was reportedly found on the 13000 block of Jeb Stuart Square shortly after 5 a.m. Wednesday morning by a delivery driver.

Police say the driver saw a body lying in the street and was reportedly found with visible trauma. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Very sad. Never expected something like this could happen. In the neighborhood like this. But a reminder that life is short. Really, you know, that the person who died probably if it was a homicide, he wasn't expecting it," said resident Robert MacEwen.

"We have 1100 homes community-wide, under the association 555, never heard something like this. So it's scary and disturbing, but it's a very diverse neighborhood," said Sameer Rohatgi, neighborhood Home Owner's Association President.

"We have not been able to identify the victim. They are working on doing that. We are also working to find the cause of upper body trauma as well," said Fairfax County Police Deputy Director Emilie Voss.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is expected to conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
