'Please don't shoot me': Rideshare driver begs before Maryland shooting

A rideshare driver was shot multiple times last night outside an ExtraSpace storage unit in Brentwood. Now, his family is grappling with devastation as the 36-year-old recovers from his injuries.

Oluwatosin Adetula, a new father of four months, is fighting for his life in critical condition at a hospital following the late-night shooting. His parents, overcome with grief, are pleading for answers as police work to uncover who shot him and why.

Authorities responded to a report of gunfire in the 3300 block of Bladensburg Road in Brentwood around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday night.

When officers arrived, they found Adetula in a parking lot near the storage facility, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

A law enforcement source close to the investigation revealed that Adetula was reportedly on the phone with a relative just before the shooting. The relative allegedly heard the suspect demand, "Turn down the radio," followed by Adetula’s plea, "Please don’t shoot me," before the shots were fired.

Police have recovered shell casings from the scene and are now focused on identifying a suspect and motive. Investigators are considering whether Adetula may have been targeted, if the incident was a robbery, or if the shooter was a rideshare customer.

"This has shattered our family," said Adetula’s mother, who shared that her son had been working tirelessly as a rideshare driver to support his family.

As detectives from Prince George’s County and Cottage City police departments continue to follow leads, they are urging anyone with information about the case to contact the Prince George’s County Police Department.

For now, Adetula’s family remains in anguish, hoping for justice and praying for his recovery.
