WASHINGTON - It can't get any more official than this! During her last stop to the Metropolitan Police Department Academy, outgoing D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier turned in her service weapon.
D.C. Police posted the photos online showing Lanier with a big smile on her face as she turned in her gun.
Lanier's last day on duty was on September 15th. Her official last day will be on September 17th. She leaves after serving as Chief of Police for nine years. She served a total of 26 years in the District.
Lanier will move on to a position as NFL senior vice president of security, based in the league's New York office. She will supervise all operations and activities of the NFL security department, and will work to ensure the security of NFL venues, fans, players, staff, and infrastructure.
