WASHINGTON - A non-profit in Washington is helping women to find a second chance at life.
Her Resiliency Center aids young women in finding housing and jobs while linking them up with mentors.
Many of its participants have grown up in shelters, their parents have been in and out of jail and they've fought homelessness.
"I started Her Resiliency Center a couple years ago because I found a need to fill gaps in the Washington DC area. I grew up in a home with a lot of chaos. I moved to DC and I was completely on my own," Natasha Guynes, the founder of Her Resiliency Center explained. "I was engaged in the commercial sex industry. I was drinking regularly, using drugs and homeless, which required me to navigate DC's social services agencies. Fortunately, I had a community of women very much like we are here at Her Resiliency Center who taught me how to get on my feet and make positive decisions for my life and that's what we offer to the women we serve."
To help Her Resiliency Center to "Pay It Forward," FOX 5 and Easterns Automotive Group teamed up to present Guynes with a $2,000 check and an SUV filled with supplies for the program.
